Don’t try so hard to impress!

When I first met M, he was looking for a new car. His old car was giving him problems and well, I suppose looking for a new car gave us an opportunity to go out together. I like looking at cars and I like cars so I didn’t mind going around the car showrooms and on test drives.

We went and tested many cars ranging from Toyota Camry to the BMW Roadster to a Mercedes. I don’t quite know what he was up to. Maybe he was trying to impress me with the fact that he was going to get a new car.

After much hemming and hawing, he decided he’d get a Camry. We had caught the tail end of a promotion and he seemed quite happy about it, even telling the sales man he’d be signing the papers soon.

Not very long after that, we had a falling out due to his insecurity and I decided I’d forget the idea of dating an insecure man exclusively.

Recently, I happened to meet him and asked him how his Camry was handling. MONKEY! (I tell you, he really justifies the title of M!) HE DID NOT BUY THE CAR AT ALL!

He told me his sister was getting married and buying a new car so he took over his sister’s car instead. He knew this all along, because I’d asked him if he planned to take over her car before. He said no, he did not because he wanted a new car of his own. Besides, he said, her car was only a Proton Wira whereas he wanted something more luxurious.

BULLSHIT!

So there you have it. A case of clearly trying too hard to impress. It made me feel physically sick to know that he was dragging me around to car showrooms and braving the hot sun, and agreeing to buy the Camry only because I’d said that it was a good car to have. IDIOT! I’m so happy I got rid of bad rubbish.
