Passing of a Legend – Lydia Sum

I heard on the radio today that Lydia Sum Din Ha or more popularly known in her younger days as Fei Fei (Cantonese for Fat Fat due to her plump size) has passed away.

It came as a surprise to me to hear of Lydia Sum’s death.

I mean I knew she was ill. In fact, I was just discussing over the Chinese New Year, with my cousin if she was ok. I am not well versed in Hong Kong pop culture and Edison Chen’s sex antics has stolen the limelight lately.

I did feel a little sad hearing of her death. Lydia Sum was a wonderful comedian whose tv antics never failed to raise laughter.

Her plump size and black horn rimmed glasses and curly hair was the very trademark of Lydia Sum. In her later years, she moved from Hong Kong to Singapore where she acted in some local English sitcoms.

I remember her best in the 80s comedy "Its a Mad Mad Mad World" and its sequels.

Rest in Peace Lydia Sum Din Ha – the world will miss you.
