What are the police doing?!

Police are the custodians of peace in the country. Yet, in our country, the police seem to be acting up in a manner which pisses off the common folk like me.

Case #1
A police man who was accused of raping a girl in a police station was let out on bail. All he was given was an admonition not to contact her, but one would think that for a serious crime like rape, he would be kept in jail where there is no threat of him or his family or friends confronting his victim. That is what jail is for!

Case #2

The IGP is suing Anwar for defamation. All because Anwar lodged a report against him and the matter is still under investigation. Did you read that? THE MATTER IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED! Yet, the IGP and his lawyers saw it fit to bring a court action for defamation on the basis that it was not true. How does that work? Is this like a pre-emptive strike, to prevent the police and ACA from finding a case against the IGP? I’d have thought that after this civil case, how would the ACA and police react? Can they now find that there is a case of cover up by the IGP? If that is so, there goes the defamation case. But will they do that?

Is this like a threat? If one person dares to bring a court action against another, while police investigations are ongoing, does it mean they are innocent?

If this case is allowed, I can just imagine the precedents it would create. All someone has to do when a police report is lodged against them, is to file an action for defamation. This would be sufficient intimidation to the accuser for them to withdraw the report maybe? I thought intimidation and perversion of the course of justice is a crime.

Maybe not if its the police doing it.
