I used to scoff at people who took out travel medical insurance, thinking they were wasting their money. But after a recent experience, I am even thinking of buying an annual policy.
While my bro and sil were in Greece for their honeymoon, SIL had a tummy ache one day. It was bad (no she isn’t pregnant! bad enough that my mom’s asking
) and bro didn’t know what to do. So, he took her to the hospital where the doctor said it was a bad case of gastric and needed a jab.
This would have set bro back a couple of thousand dollars, but instead, as he had his medical insurance with him, it cost him nothing. SIL felt much better after the jab and their honeymoon went on without any further hitches.
So yes, its scary but something I’d be looking into for sure when I travel. Medical attention is expensive and getting more expensive and its awful when you are on holiday in a foreign land and don’t know where to go and what to do. So, yes, this is a community service message
